For this method to work you have to use the Appimage I mentioned https://github.com/ivan-hc/GIMP-appimage/releases
The Appimage on gimp.org will give you the aforementioned error, so will compiling Gimp 3 from source.
I don’t know about the Flatpak, or snap packages as I avoid them on my systems due to issues i have, and have had in the past.
If you want a copy of the Appimage I use you are welcome, I’ll upload it to my cloud and share it with you. just PM me here.
As a side note I’ve used gimp as an Appimage for a few years now, (since 2.8) without any problems.
Hopefully as Gimp 3 gets a little more mature getting useful plugins such as this will be far easier, I’m now waiting for an updated Gmic to be released for linux to be honest I miss that a little more than I missed the Resythesizer Plugin.
Thanks a lot!
Not really interested in flatpak, appimage &Co…
I live with my old Gimp 2.10.38 and I’m waiting for Gimp 3 to work according to my needs ( satisfied for Gmic, but not for resynthetiser, gutenprint etc…)
I’m running both Mint 21 and 22 (different machines), with an Appimage version of Gimp 3.0.
As a side note here I’ve downloaded the Debian Zip and have no clue what to do after extracting it, I’m not even sure if it will work anyway.
If you unzip this creates a gmic_gimp_qt/gmic_gimp_qt (executable in like-named directpry). You love that directory into any of the directories listed in Preferences > Folders > Plug-ins, or you add the parent directory of gmic_gimp_qt/ in Preferences > Folders > Plug-ins.
Thanks for that, I have tried as you suggested, but still no joy, Gmic is not recognized by the Appimage, (from Gimp.org), I have a feeling it’s the way the App is built, or maybe the Gmic download, is not compatible with my systems. Anyway no worries thanks for the info. I will continue to use 2.10 to access Gmic as a workaround for the time being
As far as I can see the gimp.org Gimp 3.0 appimage (all 450 MB of it) is based on Debian buster and a Gimp 3.0 gmic_gimp_qt needs to be compiled in that Debian with Gimp 3.0 libraries.
You could try this light-weight Gimp 3.0 version which is based on 'buntu
Will it get updated to Gimp 3.02 - maybe not - dependencies are getting to be a problem. It should work with Mint 21/22 (it works in my kubuntu 22.04 / 24.04) Remember you do need QT5 for the plugin.
I have Gimp 3 flatpak on Mint 22 and have installed Resynthesizer with this method.
Now when I try to use Heal Selection, I get the following error messages:
