I have deinstalled newer versions of ubuntu, because they would not load different appimage versions of RT. Finally i found the solution. Newer ubuntus need a library called libfuse2 to start appimages. you will find a description of installation by a search in the internet (at your own risk). with ubuntu 24.04 it is a similiar but different libfuse, you will find out but i have not tried it. i write this to save your time as i wasted mine.
So now i managed to get the rt 5.12 appimage running on a very old notebook,
the appimages run WAY FASTER then an installation from the ubuntu shop:

If you have large folders with Raw Photos, it will take a while to digest it the first time for RT.
And even after this process, RT will work on rendering the preview pictures,
as you can see in a system monitor. Only after that you should try to open a picture!
Or else RT will show a show the “got stucked” label .
To do do all (my) basic changes it then takes acceptable time to render a picture
and will use this machine as long it does not break down.
I found out that to update the lensfun data, lensfun has to be installed as a program.
Then you have to watch if the new data is put into the right folder,
which can be tricky.
All in all this is way too difficult for a beginner in raw developing,
not to speek of language issues, which many will have.
Good evening!
