snow and color calibration

I’m trying to improve my snow editing skills, so here is my contribution to this old post :smiley:
I calibrated for the snow in the sun, then desaturated the shadows and color graded until I had not too saturated cyan shadows and highlights slightly warm. Finally, I’ve put emphasis on the subject by adding brightness in the saturated regions.

Here we touch upon a factor mentioned further above in the thread: Time of day.
Basically my immediate reaction to your edit was that the highlighted area is too warm in color. But with a low sun, like in the late hours of daylight, it may be conveying a “correct” overall feel of the light.

I edited with an other edit, trying to set a colder atmosphere :smiley:

My play in GIMP.
I have not made any changes to the colour of the snow, although I have made a contrast increase. I decided that the main emphasis should be on the skier.
