My first attempt was to add some mist by negative Haze Removal, but this failed miserably

A two-clicks change to my first edit: 1) Turned off color calibration 2) Set white balance to Cloudy. I like this one much better.

Here is my version with darktable and a custom film sim. Testing some new saturation and sharpness tools based on mocking DIR couplers effects in analog film.
