Bumblebees don’t seem to be bothered in the slightest. My wife pets them.
Bees are mild-mannered creatures. They will not attack, much less sting, unless they are directly attacked. They die if they sting, so they prefer not to. Accidental dangers are things like getting one caught in your clothes or your hair, or feeling something in your hair and going to brush it away with your hand.
And I, too, used to pet bumblebees when I was a child. Not stung once. Never.
Wasps, on the other hand are a different kettle of fish. Or… kettle of wasps.
While generally true, context matters. We had a particularly ornery bumblebee in our yard one year. She stung both my wife and I, unprovoked, on separate occasions hours apart. She was clearly upset about something, but who knows what it was.
The exception that proves the rule, i guess?
And I should note that honeybees only sting once and then die, but other kinds of bees can sting multiple times.
Wind, of course.
But having some long pieces of home grade solid core electrical wire can stabilize nature without harm.
Hi all,
wind is the worst.
To avoid it, try to fix a small windscreen (aluminium foil, white fabric) with skewers or, if it’s a higher plant, with tent masts.
