D750’s are going for peanuts these days and that’s a great camera.
A quick back-of-the-envelope estimation says you’d get roughly 100kg of peanuts for a D750. You could save half the weight by going for peanut butter instead.
Oh, that’s a great idea! Yesterday, I went looking for used Z 6 prices, about $800 body-only. D750 is $400-$500 US body-only, geesh about the same as my D7000 bought new when they discontinued it. And, if you already have F-mount lenses a far-less overall initial investment.
When I was cogitating my D7000 replacement, the D750 was my first choice. But then, my small lens collection was all DX, so I was going to have to buy a few lenses anyway. Then the Z series came out, and the thing that attracted me to going that way was the new Z mount. Larger throat meant fewer optical pet-tricks to neck down the light, and I was going to have to change out lenses anyway, so… GAS!!
Thing is, 9 years later, don’t see any need to upgrade from that Z 6. It does every single thing I need, still. About the only remaining thing I’d consider acquiring would be the 105mm macro, although my need is to photograph scale model building progress and my cellphone does that way more conveniently. I’ve long-ascribed to the ‘get what you need, but first understand what you need’ perspective, so there. ![]()
