I don’t know. I’ve printed 12MP at two meters wide. You can see that it’s not perfectly sharp, but at whole-picture viewing distance, it makes no difference.
(But again, different folks, different preferences)

Indeed, if I did the pixels-per-printed-inch assessment, I’d probably be more comfortable with my current camera in that regard. I have of recent done more “reach” cropping; using my longest focal length, 300mm, I still had to aggressively crop to fill the frame with humming birds. Culminating all that into printing might drive me higher…

Pixels per inch are not normally a useful metric. Pixels per degree of view make more sense. A small photo that you hold in your hand will need more detail than a billboard seen from a distance.

All these smaller camera stores with decent used selections are pushing my GAS buttons & that’s on top of the big players like B&H , KEH , MPB…

Where are these stores? Are you in the US?
Where I live it’s slim pickings. We just have big box stores that happen to sell cameras, with a very small used selection. And if you expand the filters to include 3rd party sellers, you get loads of listings like this:
It’s disguised to look like a deal because of all the accessories you get with it, but most of them you either don’t need or don’t want.
A used a7R III body in mint condition should be about $1600 max, and brand new, it’s less than $3000.
And then there’s this one where you can “save $752”:
But they are just using the MSRP from back in 2017 to calculate what savings you are making!
So, as always with these things, it’s buyer beware. I’d much prefer to buy from a specialist camera shop, but I really don’t have much choice where I live.

I bought my D750 at Unique photo back in 2017 and a used nikon 50mm F1.8D for $50 in mint condition last year. I’ve bought my 20mm F2.8D , Tamron 17-35mm F2.8-4 osd from Bergen County Camera used & in excellent condition for $130 and $150. The rest of my lens catalog came from B&H which is usually priced higher then the other 2. B&H is placed lower on my list but they are the only place that sells most of the 3rd party lenses.

I remembered writing this and recently came upon the perfect example. These are all exported to 720p(1MP). The first crop is the full 24MP, the second is 2MP (1080p), third is 1MP (720p) and the 4th is 1MP with additional sharpening and local contrast.
Pipeline: As you can see there is no additional sharpening besides capture sharpening
EDIT: Sharpened 1MP images make me remember the early internet

Thypoch is rumoured to be releasing a 24-50 F2.8 AF zoom this year. There are also rumours that Viltrox will start making zooms. This is the one area where 3rd party manufacturers other than Tamron and Sigma have not made much headway. This has the potential to bring some much needed competition into the zoom segment, and I’m looking forward to seeing what budget alternatives we can get. The downside is that we might start seeing more lawsuits like Nikon vs Viltrox because 1st parties will be keen to protect their mount licences.

I have managed to delay my GAS. I was gonna buy the Tamron 17-70 for Fuji for a coming trip to Scotland (again) and decided that instead I will take my primes and save the money… for a Fuji 16-55 f2.8 MK2 Delayed GAS if you will…
Economic problems seem more likely than ever in the near future, and having liquid cash on hand will be better than buying a zoom for a little more convenience over than taking a couple primes with me and swapping them when need be. This way I will end up with a lighter, better built and more WR lens at the end of the day

I have just visited Italy and put my very manual AstrHori 9mm f2.8 lens onto my Canon R7. I have found the lens a dream to use. The manual focus combined with the large DoF from a 9mm lens makes focusing so so easy. The focus guides marked on the lens barrel means I set focus and forget. The camera has no idea what aperture I am using and I resolve this challenge by using Auto ISO and exposure bracketing. The sharpness of the lens, the lack of distortion and CA is impressive for such an inexpensive lens. I bought this lens because my Canon 10-18mm lens was just so disappointing in all aspects of performance. I could have bought an L series lens for a hefty price and it may be better than my AstrHori lens, but for the price I am really impressed with this lens. These Chinese lenses are very impressive value.

I recently purchased a Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2X macro, which is fully manual and I love it. The R7 focus peaking feature makes it very easy to obtain sharp images of stationary subjects. It’s a great reminder that there was once a day when manual focus was the only option out there.

That is one very big advantage of many mirrorless cameras. I also bought an 85mm F2.8 tilt macro lens by AstrHori and I could not go back to a non-tilt macro now I appreciate the extended DoF from tilt with Macro. I could buy a Canon tilt macro but I would need very deep pockets.

How would you assess the autofocus APS-C lens offerings for RF mount at this point?
Last time I checked, it was very scarce, a few from Canon (though the prices are rather friendly) and Sigma, the odd Tamron. Has this improved?
I found the 18-150mm kit lens very versatile and good. But I replaced it with a sigma 16-300mm for a safari in Africa where I wanted one lens capable of wide and close-up. I am very happy with the lens and feel the subject and composition is more important than the pixel peeking technical quality of the lens. Darktable corrects the distortion and CA any way. The AstrHori lenses are what truly amaze me and I like manual focusing just like I like manual exposures. The image stabilization on the R7 is very good. I have to admit that cameras like Sony get better 3rd party lens support than Canon. I bought the AstrHori 9mm because the Canon 10-18mm lens never should have been made or sold. Canon should be ashamed to have their name on that crap lens. Sorry I couldn’t really answer your question. Of course the L series lenses should be good but the price tag is not so friendly.

I think the best bang for buck, at least before the memory apocalypse, was buying 256GB micro SD cards and putting them in adapters. Kingston canvas Go V30 were around 30 euro or so for 256GB and their speed is sufficient for anything but high burst rates. They even handle high bitrate(200Mb/s) video just fine. That said when I take the X-T3 with a long or macro lens, I always make sure to take the Lexar V60’s or it’ll be an eternity clearing the buffer between electronic shutter bursts.
Edit: Wow, a 256GB V60 card now goes for 150 euro

They got burned due to oversupply not long ago and apparently now they are keeping it safe. That said, they keep being guilty of price fixing, so who really knows what is going on now.
Of course this was before the war started, who knows where things will go now

I think Sony Alpha is a good choice
I would have the alpha 7c mk2 with a 40mm lens
two issues with the a6700 , Unfortunately not from experience other people’s opinions:
The mechanical shutter is Louder than its predecessors this is unfortunate because it has anti-flicker technology they don’t have but you might want a quite a shutter in those situations
The other point being that you might get better color with Canon and Fuji
I do know my Canon cameras have better color than my RX100 mark 4 particularly on auto white balance however Sony seem to have the more advanced tech on other issues
Maybe a skylight filter on Sony will help with landscapes
This issue of banding with LED lights maybe illustrates the point somebody made that you would be better off spending time on the pre-processing
I did a search on software solutions and one for Photoshop did appear however on closer examination the people with the best solutions on it were using gimp
