My suggestion is to do some printing trials on some paper similar to the magazine and perfect a version for printing.
That is rather out of my hands. I have offered to soft-proof my images to the printer’s specification, but this has been declined by the publsher.

A quick hack with gimp, nufraw (using 0, +1, +2 exposures), and local contrast enhancement from g’mic. Recropped to approximately match your pdf.

The cover looks very good.
In my case the publisher seemed to have just picked up the image from Wikicommons and printed it without any adjustment. I could have easily have produced a more suitable version for printing, in this case probably a bit HDR effect to show more of the sculpture detail.
