Not sure if you are talking about darktable or Rawtherapee. You are a darktable user if I remember correctly.
darktable can use non-standard colour profiles (ICC only): You need to create the color/in directory structure inside you configuration directory and then place the ICC profile(s) in the in directory. Restart darktable if it was active. The extra profiles are now available via the input color profile module (the input profile pull down menu). It is mentione here in the documentation.
Just in case: I used RawTherapee in the above edit. RT can also use DCP profiles (unlike darktable). These, and ICCs, can be accessed via the Colour Management module in the Colour tab. It does not matter where they are on your machine, just point RawTherapee to it and it will be used.
