Tokyo vignettes

A selection from my recent trip (June-July 2026). I am planning on a few more collections to highlight other cities (Kyoto, Kanazawa) and themes.

These have been lightly edited but I consider them a work in progress. I
thought it was time to see some feedback. Comments, critiques, suggestions–about individual images and the collection–are of interest!

Thanks.

Not sure what settings may be responsible, but the images in my browser (Vivaldi) are not showing at 100%, but a bit larger (=loss of sharpness). All landscape formats are 1600 px wide, while all portrait formats are 1400 px high.

They look nice on my phone, well done!

Thank you for sharing the photos. I like especially the photo with the small Fukutoku-jinja in front of the large modern business building. The (cultural) contrast is stunning.

Thank you. This was our first visit to a shrine in Japan–on our first whole day after arriving. Despite all the high-rises and commerce, this neighborhood (Nihonbashi) is fairly quiet. However, I was really struck by the sense of peace and solitude at this shrine. A wonderful oasis in a dense urban setting.

I have a special fondness for the second one, despite the necessity to shoot it through glass. (Also some wavy artifacts appeared in converting to jpg). Many Japanese interior spaces are stunningly beautiful in their sparsity of decoration/distraction placed flawlessly within expansive volumes such as this lobby.
