Tone equalizer problem

Completely with you there. I re-did about 300 edits with the new workflow and did a before/after comparison on all of them. I think there were maybe five where filmic wasn’t as good as my previous edits (most of these were Harry-Durgin-esque multi-pass edits). All of the rest took far fewer steps to get to a far better result.

darktable separates hue (which is the angle on the colour wheels) from the saturation (which is the radius on the color wheels). Color wheels are great if you are working with the actual hardware thing : Media | Blackmagic Design, but on an UI primarily driven from a mouse pointer, I find them unreliable more than anything. Still, the principle is exactly the same : you just have 2 linear coordinates instead of 1 polar button.
