What linux distribution do you prefer and why?

I’m done distrohopping, that’s it

Coincidentally my Linux and Windows/macOS setup challenge is now sort of similar because of older hardware I don’t want to abandon just yet.

On Windows that meant locking down W10 and keeping a dedicated music-only-laptop offline forever.

On Linux it’s mostly due to the Nvidia driver vs. 2013 and 2015 macbooks and slightly newer touchscreen Surface Books.

My €100 (used) touchscreen daily driver chrultrabook linux laptops hardware specs also narrows it down.

Debian, Fedora and Arch seem to be the only option that covers all of them, so plenty of choices there. Cachyos came out swinging during this recent and final-last-one-for-real distrohop. First time trying btrfs snapshots which is a total gamechanger.

Niri desktop has also been a great discovery, courtesy of PikaOS. Then https://noctalia.dev and https://danklinux.com appeared, currently honeymooning on the former. TheBlackDon (YT) has great demos of either.

I am however about to learn more about the immutable/atomic/nix option. It seems to simplify setup across different hardware and makes it easier to set up stable Linux machines with a Flatpak app store for family and friends. Maybe for myself as well and the freeze all upgrades requirement mentioned above.
