First of all I need to thank SiriL to let me do short exposures deep sky imaging. No other softwares have the same possibility to manage thousands of images like this.
I am trying to image M1 with a 12 nm H-alpha filter with my dobsonian telescope in al-az configuration. The single frames are too noisy to let the software see enough stars for registration. I solved changing the noise threshold parameter from 1.0 to 0.1 and it worked. But, is there any documentation or tutorial for aligning with the 2-3 star system? Or even the one star system? Unfortunately I could not understand how to do by myself without a guide.
Thank you for your help.
Filippo
Hello and welcome.
I don’t think we made documentation on that yet. The messages in red in the interface will guide you. You just have to select stars in the image and click on the buttons Pick 1st star and 2nd and 3rd if you have 3. It will follow the star in all images of the sequence. When you click on ‘Go register’ then, it will create a new sequence with the images aligned (rotated and translated).
With one star it’s a different registration method but it also works by analysing the star in the sequence, then it computes translation between all frames. It does not create a new sequence.
Thank you for your help. So first a make a selection in the picture then I press the button “Pick …”. I tried and it works very well.
Thank you again.
If anybody else searches for this, we have a video that shows how to use the 2- or 3-star registration: https://free-astro.org/videos/2-3stars.webm
Thank you for that, very clear.
