Hi 5.0 with DNG files works fine for me but it crashes on import of CR3 files. 4.8 is okay with CR3
unless you give more infos no one can help. It’s not known that CR3 files generate issues in general …
Hi Martin, up to 4.8, 4.9 last month everything went fine. The files come from a M50, no compression. Now I have tried those on 5.0, 5.1 and DT crashes on import. With DNG files no problems. DT 5.0 is okay with those files. I am running W11 24H2. Thanks for your reply.
Please provide a log of the crash. Check the FAQ on how to get the logfile for windows.
I will look into how to create a log file tomorrow. I just ran the same CR3 file on 4.8 without any problem. Thanks
CR3 files from my Canon R7 work fine. Could you share a M50 CR3 file for others to check and definitely run a log file so the problem can be sorted for you.
I’ve had no issues with CR3 files from my R7, either
PS - I had no issues opening a sample M50 CR3 file from Digital Photography Review
Hi, I did an uninstall of 5.0. Installed 4.8 again. Same problem now, so it must be something in my system since a month or so. XNViewMP works fine dispaying the raw and not the embedded JPEG. I will send in the logfile later. Thanks for yor help
I downloaded also a M50 CR3 from Digital Photography Review. Same problem.

but to what???
Running as administrator did not help
Try disabling opencl in preference.
Can you share the xmp?
What’s your hardware? I see a system with 6gb of ram.
Yes, disableling OpenCL did it! I can do without. I run an AMD 3200g with 8GB. 2 GB for the IGPU. For me the problem is solved. Thanks for the help.
The Microsoft OpenCL compatibility kit/pack has often caused issues. You can try removing that. Search this forum for Microsoft OpenCL compatibility. Oh, found it: Darktable not opening - #6 by kofa
It’s not really solved, but we now understand the initial cause. It helps others in the community to see what is really wrong if we can fix your crash.
I would start with making sure you have the latest video drivers for your card directly from the amd website (not what windows provides).
I think I also noticed some opencl settings in darktable are not the default. Did you edit darktblerc?
It doesn’t seem to be that issue after looking at the log. Demosaic was doing tiles in Opencl and it failed. I’m guessing it is a memory management issue.
Also, we blacklisted the Microsoft driver’s by default. Even if they are available, dt should no longer use them (on new installs/new darktablerc).
Hi I will respond later today. Thanks
Hi, here I am again . I just installed the latest AMD Adrenaline drivers. It did not make a difference. I deactivated NVidia CUDA and Intel GPU in my setting. That did not make any difference either. g-man, those were the only settings that I changed. For me it 's okay now. I can live with it. I wil look into “Microsoft OpenCL compatibility kit/pack” in a few days. Thanks for your help.
I ve got OpenCL running now! I activated “Use all GPU memory” in the settings. It runs okay now. End of story for me. Thanks
That’s a dangerous setting. It is likely to lead to crashes, if the operating system or other programs use part of the memory. I understand you had crashes to begin with.
You could try disabling it and play with the various resource levels. See: darktable user manual - memory & performance tuning
