I’m still organizing some 7Tb and 20 years of digital shooting, used Digikam to filter out shots with that superwide to see how they’d look in B&W. Most of the work done here by Digikam’s Showfoto BW recipes.
I love the last photo , where was it shot?
@Mike_Bing that works out very nicely in BW, nice details and perspectives. Love them. Did you shoot inside the Queen Victoria building in Sydney? @Nexis4Jersey
very nice. I also would like to know where the last one was taken.
@all who asked:
That last picture was in Amsterdam, not far from where I live. Directly behind the Queens Palace on Dam square you’ll find an elegant 19th century building, initially the Main Post Office back in the late 1800’s and part of the 20th century, after that one of the few luxury shopping malls in Amsterdam – Magna Plaza.
Once a place to shop for designer clothing and fashion accessories, now almost empty of stores and up for sale/rent.
Magna Plaza’s building was designed in the Neo-Gothic style by a Dutch architect during the end of the 19th century P.C.Peters. It was a time when another famous Dutch architect Petrus J.H. Cuypers just completed the construction of the Rijksmuseum (1885) and the Central Station (1889), both full of historical references in their architecture.
I shot this mall when it was still buzzing back in 2013 and came across a few shots from my old Pentax K-5. I had used one shot almost without any people (and in color) before but when organizing my hard drives I came across a few others which I hadn’t edited befor. I thought I’d give it another shot in processing - with people and in B&W.
Here’s the color image I shot on that same day which gives a bit of a different vibe so to speak.
Never been to Australia and not planning to go there either any time soon I have to admit. I’m fine with anything up to 6-8 hours of flying but Australia is way out of my comfort zone TBH.
Awesome - thanks for your long reply and for sharing all these interesting insights. The architecture is just wonderful. So definitely a “must go to” if I will ever be in Amsterdam ![]()
Yes, such a long flight is always a thing… The Queen Victoria Building was opened in 1889 - so roughly same era, but indeed a different style as I learned now, while reading the related Wikipedia article ![]()
Thank you very much Mike. Definitely a place to go. I often have boring meetings at the UvA in the morning and afterwards I always try to use the opportunity to do some street stuff before traveling back to Nijmegen
