I used the sketch filter on the bottom half, the sky never comes out very well with that particular filter so I used a layer with the original image for the sky. Selected the sky in Gimp, then deleted to reveal the non-sketch version in the layer underneath.

A very nice effect. I need to rediscover GIMP as it fell into semi-retirement with me. But these artist filters are nice.
Might work if you add texture, noise or increase local contrast, but I think it may not needed as the outcome is pleasant. Thanks for sharing!
