This is an image I shot las weekend in our local forest with a full-frame DSLR and a 28mm/f2.8 - the image itself was pleasing but I found that a 70% transparent overlay using Fred’s Orton script enhanced the image noticeably.

Nice! Note that you can do an Orton effect in Darktable directly, or even combine it with a bit of softening to create very nice results.
Sadly they’re not proper free software
