My wife likes to bake and decorate cakes. The kids request for birthdays sometimes are challenging. This year my daughter wanted a cat on top of a rainbow. My wife baked a chocolate cake and use different color buttercream for the rainbow. She then used fondant for the cat. It is all edible (except the whiskers). She also made cupcakes since it is easier to hand out to the kids.
Photo setup: It was 2pm in a bright sunny day for an outside party. I knew that was a dynamic range challenge conditions plus I forgot to charge the flash camera batteries. Therefore I placed the table and cake in the shade against the garage door. I think it turned out pretty good for the impromptu setup and I avoided clipping the highlights.
The colors of the cake were very bright but with a white color under tone (the base color of the buttercream is fairly white). Therefore I think this is a nice one to play around with filmic and color balance rgb. Getting the color calibration looking correct took me some trail and error.
PS The chocolate cake was delicious.
