A dabble in darktable

Hello to all,
I have been on the fence about creating a post like this one for a long time. I started a YouTube channel to help promote and explain darktable a while back. I know that others have done the same and have opened a post here. I feel out of intellectual honesty that I should do the same, feedback is a good thing and I have a lot to learn. I have been reading most topics on darktable here but contribute little, there are experts here who have things to say.

I am not very good at social interaction, especially in public so this is quite difficult for me. I am not shy in real life and like to share my photos but starting is discussion is another matter.

My motivation for my channel is to understand how things work and to share with others (apart from showing that darktable great and for me the most exciting photography project) . I do not pretend to be anything else than an amateur photographer paired with a mathematical mind. I do street photography mainly, if you a curious :

I think that this is the time to create this post as I shall be away from my computer for a short while. I do not know what to expect, maybe nothing will happen.
Deep breath and click on Create Topic.

Nice to read about you here, Nicolas. Been following your YT channel for a while.
Sorry to see you’re not on pixelfed and mastodon, though.

Your videos are nice! I see them recommended fairly frequently here and on reddit. I think you’re doing quite well!

Hello Nicolas ! Nice to read you here. I like very much the darktable videos you make  Being french I enjoy them in both languages. Hats off for spending time to do your work in english and french!

Hi @nwinspeare , It is great to find you here and discuss about your videos!

Hi Nicolas, great to see you on here. I’ve watched almost all of your videos and I find them very useful/interesting. I’m a fairly experienced user of Darktable, so I appreciate the more in-depth, mathematical approach to your videos, rather than some other DT channels more geared to beginners. I know it might be difficult for you to get lots of followers when you’re talking about laplacians and the like, but I for one appreciate your approach, and it has helped me to understand some of the more complex aspects of Darktable.

Feel free to ignore this next question, but I’m somewhat intrigued by your history. You’re obviously bilingual and I believe you live in France at the moment. But your English sounds completely native, and you have what I think is a Northern English accent, like maybe North West England? Am I close?

The link you provided to your wordpress site went to an unknown site. It looks like the first part of the url was missing. I think this is the site you meant to link:

Thank you for the videos you have put out! You, Boris, and Bruce (sorry I forget the user names here), have been really instrumental in helping me become almost competent with Darktable!

You are very close! I grew up near Manchester and my family moved to France.

Thanks, I think the main page of my site disappeared! I’m repairing it now so I hope it works better in the future.

Hi Nicolas! I’m relatively new to Darktable and discovered your videos when searching for some tutorials. Your latest video was especially useful to create some presets in the D&S module.

This is my first post here, so consider your post inspiration for me to jump in a say hello.

Welcome Andrew. I see that you just joined…We look forward to hearing from you…

Thanks Andrew and welcome!

Ah, great, thanks for sharing that! I grew up about 30 minutes from Manchester, in Cheshire. I had a feeling we must have been quite close growing up based on your accent. I also lived in Lyon for a while as part of my degree.
