A few RT observations

hi, have been processing this afternoon and thought I’d mention these -

  1. Processing progress
There’s text at the bottom of the screen, often it says “HL reconstruction…”, though I think much of the time whilst seeing this is actually stuff like wavelets, noise reduction, sharpening. It’s nice to have a feel for how s/ware behaves, I’d suggest let all the main processes show here.

  2. Repeat processing
If I save to jpeg, then save to tiff without making any changes (or just output profile), as I often do, RT repeats the demosaicing, HL reconstruction etc. Does it really need to do that in this situation?

  3. Repeated tool application
As an example, suppose I’ve rotated the image, then altered a few exposure things, then rotated again. The history will show both the rotations. When the pipeline is processed, does RT combine both into one calc? I suppose I’m wondering if it’s “noisier” / less accurate to have the rotate calcs done twice (though I appreciate it’s 32bit). Should one go back to the first rotate and re-do it, for optimum results?

Above is with RT 5.2 & Ubuntu. Looking forward to replacing 16.10 with a supported one and updating RT. (Will probably go to the longer-supported 16.04.3, good till 2021, sound ok?..)

Happy processing…

There are several open issues about the progress bar, e.g.

Workaround: put the TIFFs to the queue instead of the raws.

Yes. Re-open the raw and you will find the history is gone and only the end result tool values are stored.
