Your processing is already quite good and artistic, so I’d probably only ruin it. Here’s my version where I’ve used other artistic elements.

I’m usually exactly this person. But there are execptions. Just like on this edit, where I had a finished picture in mind, but wasn’t able to realise it that way. So I started to return to trained patterns to come to a result which I in general like but hadn’t in mind in this way.

Second that! I often work intuitively, I like it that way too…

Now comes the hard question: ‘what did you have in mind’?
That’s why I like play raws so much. “I wouldn’t have done that,” turns out to be a great starting point for exploration.
… even when sometimes it’s “UGH! I would not have done that.”

It’s not a hard question, it’s an unfair question. I’m not the one who is able to pack my thoughts in words. I have to form it, draw it, render it. My thoughts are pictures not words. I thought of a more dreamy version with a more blueish green in the shadows and warmer sunny break throughs.
I’m already tinkering around a lot, but I think I have to start anew from a more basic edit. That’s where I am at the moment. Nearer to what I thought of, but somehow…:

And here is my take:
Even with upgrading LibRaw to the latest, this Raw gives me black bands on the top and right sides on the image. Not sure whether or not i edited the original pixels…

You’ve handled those purple flowers better than I could.
My starting point involves two DorS settings for local contrast that I created from my Hoover Dam edit (I’ve been trying them on multiple pictures recently)
I have two versions. The first one is a proper attempt, the second is more of an ‘idea’ introducing colour contrast

OK, I said to myself - I’ll just upgrade to dt 5.6.0. Anything for Uli!
My Fedora-based distro has not yet packaged 5.6.0. I’m wondering when/if that will happen.
Then I looked at upgrade options. It wasn’t clear to me what was included in the Appimage, so I thought - gee, I could just build dt 5.6 and get all of the new features for certain. I can follow simple instructions! But no, I ran into dependency hell. Three hours later, in desperation resorting to AI for help, I have dt 5.6.0 running with AI features and CUDA support. Great, now on to the image!
Sadly, I have nothing to add. This one is not easy, and I think Uli has done more than what I would have done even if I tried harder.

I like the warm tones in @BorisRabit edit. It is what I imagined and failed to achieve.
Thanks for the xmp file @ChiMo it allows dunderheads like me to load the xmp file and learn what others have done. I wouldn’t know how to extract that from metadata in a usable way. I like your choice of warm tones.

I appreciate you saying that, as yours was definitely one I looked at before attempting my own. I think there’s SO much green in this photo, it’s hard to get any contrasts in there. Using the channel mixer part of color calibration is something I haven’t tried in a while.
I like how different people’s opinions of cropping are. Just about everyone kept the foreground that I got rid of, and many people kept the original 3:2 aspect ratio. I think after enjoying micro four thirds for so long, I’ve learned I really dislike tall vertical photos, ha ha…

I really need to start doing more of these again, they are fun.
But I took the fun out of this one…mostly because I didn’t try much out of the ordinary.
Meaning, I just used my standard workflow…but just MORE of it. Plus I added some subtle sun rays where there were none.
Lots of vibrance, really tried to get the fireweed to stick out (even though in proportion it is such a small part of the frame), lowered the blue hue of the creek, bit of extra saturation, some contrast eq for basic sharpening and softness, then diffuse and sharpen to refine the details. As well as some other minor tweaks (tone eq, exp, color balance rgb…everything)
Nice spot…must have felt very peaceful there.

When you click the “Load sidecar file…” button, simply select the .JPG file instead of the .XMP file.
This works if the option to include the history in the export is selected.
