Thanks.
An attempt with Photoflow enhanced usm branch (although sharpening wasn’t my goal here)

@silicoid Interesting photo. Thanks for sharing.
It reminds me of And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie.
Here’s my attempt with RawTherapee+Krita in 16-bit LAB
Krita file here - 20101002T001850_IMG_6478.kra (68.7 MB)

Wow the Krita file is a bit big…
Nice! You get even more detail out of the clouds. And yes, I do love that dark mood of the picture.
Yep, there isn’t a lot of color information in that picture to begin with.
I did go the “blue taint” way before as well. Gives an interesting effect.
My try.
Reduced the blue component.
Added some grain.
Create a selection because the zones at the corners are not easy to manage.
Increased dramaticity as resulting effect.
I really like the eclipse touch.
Of the various results this one has a pleasing smooth look with enhanced detail, especially in the clouds. So challenging shooting with a grey sky.
First RawTherapee:

Thereafter GIMP 2.8 and G’MIC:
G’MIC filters:
Freqy Pattern (with scale values below 1), Mixer [PCA], LMS Adjustment, Curves.
I thought something more abstract and colorful might be appropriate here.
Done with darktable and GIMP:

WOW, that looks intense
