A River and some houses

It’s been a while that I offered a Play Raw. Anyway here is a new Play on a photo I was quite unsure, how to get it right.

My difficulty with this is that I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to be looking at. I presume it is the Corn Mill.

This being so, my first action was to crop it. Everything else follows after I had done that.

GIMP.
I have tried to bring out detail, particularly in the water and the sky - probably overdone!

Nice shot, this version made with ART.

PS. The file you uploaded to show your results is 12MB. 1800 pixels for the long side is enough for this forum.

Ahhhh thoughtless me. Thanx for reminding me that I should limit the size not only when making other Play Raws.

@Popanz Are you sure that’s the right xmp? It’s only 1.6kb and doesn’t look like your upload.

Seems I’m missing exercise in offering Play Raws. Now it should be the right one. It’s made with latest AgX build.

What a nice, dreary image. Thank you.

Lots of detail to enjoy in that photo - I’m sure that is a very interesting village to walk around. Darktable 5.1

I did my doctorate in North Wales. I had friends who lived in Bethesda.

It was said that when it was raining in Bangor, it would be raining in Bethesda. Contrariwise, if it was sunny in Bangor, it would be raining in Bethesda…

Thanks, I wanted to check your sharpness settings. There is something I can’t work out - why my exports look much less sharp than my edits in dt. Even the export of your edit looks softer than the one you uploaded. Anyone got any ideas?

EDIT: Nevermind, it’s different export sizes. At the same length as your upload, the sharpness appears the same. When viewing in firefox on my screen the 1999x gets downsized slightly, which makes it look sharper. It becomes a similar size to a 1600x length export, but appears sharper. I want to know what algo firefox is using!

I can’t wait for the AgX module to be merged into the master. I look forward to the options it will bring, but he is my humble edit in DT5.1.

At first, I wanted to process it in black and white, but I couldn’t come up with anything appealing. Just not a black-and-white mood today. So, color it is. I mainly focused the attention on the central third of the image and drew it away from the rest using contrast, sharpness, and exposure adjustments. And of course, added a frame - because every image deserves one. Thanks so much for the beautiful photo. It was a joy to work on.
