…except for that one, glaring error.
Had a good chance to get out and capture the full moon and took a shot at processing this frame. I’m happy with where it’s going, but I’ve gone and mucked up the moon. On this one I wasn’t able to retain the details of the moon as I’ve done before…so I’ve got this highly clipped innocuous spot in the sky. I think the major error was in a second masked exposure adjustment…but I can’t be certain.
Anyhoo…have fun with this, and do whatever you wish with it.
And have a good day, or evening, if you choose to.
Thanks @priort and @paperdigits …I was following the AGX thread for a while, but have been missing out on the last 400 or so responses to the thread. It looks like an amazing tool and credit has to go to the creator…I’m really looking forward to trying it out at some point. But I think I may hold off on it for a while longer.
If you’re using Darktable, feel free to check out the attached XMP file. It contains all the modules I used along with their processing order.
I’m afraid I don’t have any particular rigid workflow suitable for every images, yet for this image I wanted to give it an analog film vibe, similar to Portra 800, with rich contrast while keeping the moon’s brightness intact.
Quick breakdown of my steps usually includes :
Crop & Composition : Adjusted framing, rotation, and aspect ratio.
White balance adjusment using White Balance & Color Calibration module. Personally, I find that adjusting the individual R, G, and B sliders can help achieve setting the foundational color tone that you intended.
Adjusting Exposure : Make sure the midtones are well-exposed.
Use Filmic RGB (Sigmoid also works if you like) for Tone Mapping.
Adjusting further color and contrast with Color Balance RGB, Tone Curve, and RGB Curve depends on the image. I might not use all of them. Color Equalizer module also help a lot for selective color tuning.
Enhanced details with Local Contrast / Diffuse & Sharpening module.
