An assortment of Photobooks made with FOSS

These were laid out in Scribus, and I used Rawtherapee for the processing, I’ve been using darktable for some newer ones I’ve been working on. I’ve really been enjoying the process, started by putting some together from images I’d shot without any project in mind then progressed to thinking up ridiculous titles and shooting images that would fit with them.

I have a website here with some more on, please excuse my bold claims, they’re for google, I’m very modest in real life

Wow and here I am struggling to make one book.

it can go pretty quick if you have low standards, and develop a system, mostly I start by arranging images in pairs freehand in scribus, without aligning them on a page, then arrange the pairs in a sequence, then rearrange the sequence until I’m happy with it

an example, like a storyboard I arrange pairs of pics, most of the time one per page but I occasionally branch out and lay out 4 on a page or something, normally i make a shortlist, sometimes just processing my favourite images first and choosing from those, other times arranging some jpegs then only processing the final selection

Seagulls and Hen Dos makes me think of Maciej Dakowicz’s book of Friday and Saturday nights out in central Cardiff, my home town.

yes, it’s probably got some similar stuff in it, with the addition of seagulls, and sometimes interaction between the two, I had a day trip to cardiff on the coach in 2019, some strong outfits on display even on saturday afternoon, some people weren’t so keen on having their picture taken

That grin in the last one is pure Cardiff

yes, I’ve never looked at Maciej’s book, I’ve seen it for sale a few times, just looking at some examples from it online it’s striking how there are some similarities with the pics I took on my day out, my friends from swansea and he said if you wrestle someone to the ground in the street that means they’re your mate
