Another Milky Way

Hello! I am back from vacation and got a number of night sky photos. As always I struggle to edit these kind of photos and would highly appreciate your help in making the milky way more prominent. You can see my attempt below. There is also this strange step in the night sky exposure which probably comes from artificial light.
Many thanks for your help with this.

I can’t do as well as you did.

Here is my attempt with DT 5.3.

A brighter version with a bluer sky.

Just didn’t like my version (way too noisy). May try again later. This one’s tough. lol

OK; similar flow as earlier but added diffusion smoothing (selectively) to clean some of the noise up, but still not really happy, but had to retain detail and over cleanup would loose those stars (not to mention Milky Way clouds).

A milky way, where there is hardly one?

Your wish is my command…

Thanks. This was the best direction Photo Pills indicated. And I must say that in your version it is pretty visible (at least for my taste).

Never heard of AgX; that came out awesome.

Tried clicking on your DT link and get a github 404 error.

The best I was able to do … (within a finite amount of time)

That’s not what I linked. I just linked to the thread. The github link in the original opening thread is dated. AgX was merged to master already.

Its still just a PR. No merge yet A port of Blender's AgX to darktable by kofa73 · Pull Request #19026 · darktable-org/darktable · GitHub

Thanx for clarifying. Then I got it wrong.

You got me exicted for a moment and I had to check

This is my first go at milky way processing. It was interesting to see what “worked” and what didnt. Still not entirely happy with the denoise, but I also did not work on it that much. Thanks for the play!

darktable 5.2.1

EDIT: I didnt notice a wierd artifacting in the original jpg export that is not visible in darktalble. Changed export settings and its gone. Here is the new one.
