Davis Media Design published a video talking about a huge donation to the Gimp (or to the Gnome Foundation meant for the Gimp).
Anybody know more?

Your title implies a single, two million dollar donation and that is just not true. I believe they’ve had most of this bitcoin for quite a bit of time and it is only now that they’ve started to trade it for real money.
That’s what I learned since yesterday, too. They are basically liquidating Bitcoins over a long period of time in order to support developers. Which is a great and noble thing.
Hello @beachbum
You can read this information also on this post:
However, for the future, in order to pay some developers it looks like some sort of “GIMP Foundation” needs to be created; similarly to what has been done with other open source softwares: Krita or Blender, for instance. Only later, they can really “distribute” this money to fund GIMP development…
As a consequence, IMHO, It is not that simple and fast; it usually requires a lot of paperwork and a good lawyer in order to do everything correctly (tax payments etc)
Just my supposition: maybe I am totally wrong…
Thank you for the link.
I can see the challenges. A foundation needs some sort of legal overhead and so far The Gimp has had no need to care for that. It’s a task that takes time and some legal expertise.
don’t want to be around if/when they change the name
