[Applying] Styles/Presets

Darktable 4.0.1.
In Color Calibration module I see a few (film) Presets: Fuji Acros, Ilfords.
I can choose one of them, see the impact, choose another, etc. and go to “None” to revert to my original image. All well and good.

I’ve downloaded Joao Almeida’s comprehensive set of (film) presets.
On importing them into Lighttable (under Styles) I see the entire list which is well and good.

Now my questions to address my quandary:
a) in darkroom I’d like to see Joao’s presets under the Color Calibration module and use them as I can with the preloaded presets (see above). Can I? how?
b) in darkroom I see on LHS panel the Styles option. Clicking on it drops a menu full of Joao’s presets. Choosing one of them does nothing to the image. I have no ability to “apply” the chosen preset. I have an Export button but that’s not what I want. I’d like to apply a preset, tweak it further if necessary, etc. which I can with the default presets (see above). Can I? how?
c) my only option is to “apply” a preset in lightroom, take the applied and transformed image into darkroom and then tweak it further. Is this my only option? If so it precludes me from trying out different presets as I can with the default set (see above). What am I missing?

You can’t. What you see in Color Calibration is a Preset, which is saved settings for a single module. Joao has given you styles, which are saved settings for several modules. You access a Preset from the module’s hamburger menu, you access Styles from the style menu in Lighttable, or from the Styles button towards the bottom left in darkroom view: darktable 4.6 user manual - darkroom view layout

You want the one marked in red, not the one in blue. That one is in the export module and applies the style on export.

Mica, Steven

My gratitude and appreciation for your prompt response and clarification.
Yes, I now understand better and yes, I was able to use Steven’s pointer to execute what I intended. His “Yes” and “No” were very helpful.
At first I could not find out those icons. They were obscured by the bottom up arrow in center of screen. Clicking on that arrow exposed them and from there on, it was easy cruising!
Again, my gratitude and appreciation to you! Thank you very much.

You’re welcome :grinning:

Not “obstructed”… the arrow shows and hides the bottom panel. There is an arrow on each side of the screen that’ll show/hide the panels.
