Arghh... Photo regret (been there?)

Well my style of photography relies mostly on none of those things.

I do have some regret, I was in the Alabama Hills yesterday with some horses and wonderful yellow aspen trees (I think), and I was unable to capture anything I find moving. I won’t go back next weekend, as it’s a skill issue and not just a “missed opportunity.”

Depending on where we are going, I specifically ask my wife to drive so I can look at the scenery and maybe take pictures. I’ve actually had some fairly good results from shooting out of a window with a fast shutter speed.

It can be frustrating because I’d much rather stop and take my time, but when you have an 8-hour journey to finish, it’s simply not realistic (or fair) to keep stopping for photographs.

Yeah… sort of. :upside_down_face:

I get it and there’s some truth there, but the fact remains that the dish is only as good as the worst ingredient. Or put another way, if you start low you’re gonna have to climb more.

Photography is in some respects a “sum game”. Each image is only as good as the sum of the parts (subject, light / color, compo, creativity, execution, etc.). And if some parts are sub-par, the others have to be better or the image suffers in the end.

But again, I understand your point. (or Proust’s, as the case may be)

I sympathize with you and completely agree. Where I live now there really aren’t that many great places within walking distance that would warrant spending time photographing.

Sure, I could change my eyes, beginning to enjoy dilapidation, urbanization and just messy views, but it just isn’t worth the effort for me.

Yep. Every time after I’ve spent countless hours around town to do a bit of street photography with nothing to shout about to show for it and I’m sitting on the bus on the way home, I look out of the window and see all the shots I’d kill for pass me by while my camera’s out of battery and I’m stuffing my face with potato chips. :person_shrugging:
