Fedora 41, ART built from latest sources. Output Profile is set to sRGB (ICC V4)
For exported JPEG exif tool shows that Color Space is set to Uncalibrated. How do I fix this?
For comparison DT correctly sets Color Space to sRGB

Hi,
Iām willing to help but please help me out by sharing the relevant information (in this case, as minimum the exported jpeg, the sidecar, the exiftool version you are using, and the tag you expect to see but didnāt find).
Thanks!
Hi Alberto,
Thank you for the prompt reply.
Here all all the files and info you requested:
DSC03689.ARW.arp (11.4 KB)
exif --version
0.6.22
The tag is āColor Spaceā as I mentioned in my original message:
$ exif /data/images/A7IV/2024/Napa-Nov/11041117/converted/DSC03689-1.jpg

I also tried other programs related to EXIF found in Fedora repos:
$ exiv2 --version
exiv2 0.28.3
perl-Image-ExifTool.noarch: Utility for reading and writing image meta info
And I downloaded and tried exiftool from its GitHub repo:
Please let me know what else I can do.
Thanks a lot for your help!

I have no idea what that program is, but I would check with its developers
These are the tags found by exiftool and filtered by ācolorā from jpeg produced by DT:
andrew@obama:exiftool$ /data/soft/exiftool/exiftool /data/images/A7IV/2024/Napa-Nov/11041117/darktable_exported/DSC03689.jpg |grep -i color
Color Temperature : Auto
Color Compensation Filter : 0
Color Mode : Standard
Color Space : sRGB
Color Space Data : RGB
Device Attributes : Reflective, Glossy, Positive, Color
Chromaticity Colorant : Unknown
Color Components : 3
and from ART:
andrew@obama:exiftool$ /data/soft/exiftool/exiftool /data/images/A7IV/2024/Napa-Nov/11041117/converted/DSC03689.jpg |grep -i color
Color Space Data : RGB
Device Attributes : Reflective, Glossy, Positive, Color
Chromaticity Colorant : Unknown
Color Components : 3
The tag āColor Spaceā with value āsRGBā is missing in the ART output.
I think this is why some image viewers (like eog or geeqie) display jpegs with less saturation and contrast compared to ART preview.
So, is this the real issue you are trying to solve, or is it really the missing tag that you find problematic? Because the two are unrelated. Both apps you mention apply the color profile embedded in the image correctly, at least here, and in fact I see no difference between them and the ART preview.
You can get this tag by activating it in the meta tab.
But I donāt think this is related to the embedded profile but just shows the camera setting when capturing the photo.
Thank you all for thoughts and suggestions. Yes, the main reason for this question was that in some Linux viewers JPEGs from ART looked slightly washed out compared to preview and DT results. I compared EXIF data between ART and DT JPEGs and noticed the missing sRGB. I guess I need to take a look at embedded color profiles insteadā¦
I would make sure that the various apps are using the same colour management settings. Which means not only the same display colour profile, but also the same rendering intent and black point compensation (bpc) setting. For example geeqie has no user option for bpc, iirc itās harcoded to off. If you have it on in art (again Iām talking about the display profile here, not the picture one) that alone might explain the difference.
HTH
Thank you, Alberto. Yes, thatās the case - BPC is on in ART Color Management settings. Iāll do some more experimenting.
