Although I don’t really know Nightwish, I know Floor Jansen from guest appearing on Ayreon records. I wonder what kind of varied musical tastes are on this forum. I’m a huge prog metal / prog rock fan, but it’s fairly niche in the grand scheme of things.

I used to be a big fan of prog/symphonic metal(DT, PT, NW, Opeth, etc) too but have always listened to most genres. It depends a lot on mood now  , the past month I’ve been listening to a lot of Beatles, Nick Cave, Dissection, Aphex Twin and Brian Eno.

Same here but with a couple of genres that hold a special place in my heart. There are hardly any genres that I haven’t enjoyed at some point, although country music is probably the least represented in my catalogue. But I’ve gone from pop to metal to blues to classical to rave to grunge to techno to indie to hip-hop to bluegrass to prog… not to mention the subgenres I’ve dabbled with.

Growing up a Brit, I was quite spoiled with what was developing there in the 70s, 80s and 90s. (I still listen to the Beatles, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd etc. ). And I was at uni when the rave/trance/jungle scene was in full swing, which was fun.

But I find the prog scene has some of the most creative and talented musicians around. It’s incredible when you delve into it, and it’s opened up some amazing music from countries I never grew up listening to, like Sweden, Norway, Italy, Greece, Spain, Poland, etc. That’s where I am right now, exploring prog rock and prog metal from all over the world. It’s a very deep rabbit hole and has renewed my interest in music.

I know this is off-topic but not sure it merits its own thread…
