Hopefully everyone that could and wasn’t clouded got to see and photograph the last geometric storm. I know it was visible down to Florida in the US. I’m in Colorado. So it’s much harder to get structure and details out of the Aurora.
These are all at Jackson Lake State Park on the eastern plains of the Colorado.
Starting off with a XPan panorama. 10 portrait 14m panels across (~30% overlap) at f2.8 6s. Faster shutter speed do reveal more detail unlike the storm in May 2024, where I used too slower shutter speeds and somehow barely bothered to focus. Lesson learned.
Processed with darktable, Gimp and PTGui.
Here’s a spatting of other shots from that night.
Orion and Orion’s Belt hung out with the Aurora.
The water was incredibly low. I had to hike in past two buoys. Apparently despite being a state park it’s used for farm irrigation. Everytime I’ve been here it has had a lot more water.
This is a DarkSky Certified Park. The lights near the campground didn’t negatively affect the Aurora itself, but they were still a bit annoying. They should be on timers or something especially low usage time like now. I did use DorS + Tone Equalizer to tone them back.
I’d encourage others to share their recent Auroras.
