B&W snow images - Darktable & Digikam

We don’t get a lot of snow in the Netherlands but today was one of those days. I made sure to overexpose by a full stop while shooting in order to get a decent histogram which retained detail in both shadows as well as highlights.

Converted the raw files with Christian Schulze’s “init_pop” dtstyle (minus the vignette):

after which I ran all of the images through Digikam with the following settings:

Unsharp mask at standard settings and “stretch contrast” for the color auto-correction. I finished them off with the “Ilford SPX200 Infrared” B&W filter.

The horse is quote striking! Very nice.

Nice and an easy, bulk workflow, it seems.

I lked a lot #2, it reminded me of Derzu Uzala when he got lost in the Siberean steppes (have to see that movie again)

You referring to the 1975 Kurosawa movie?

That one has been on my to watch list for a long time…

I like animals with clothing, keeping them warm during the cold months.

That one.
