Backlit fall leaves

I’ve been experimenting with backlighting to bring out some vibrant fall colors and I’m getting some encouraging results so far.

I still haven’t settled on an approach but this one was lit with a single Smallrig flexlight set behind and to the side of the leaf with a black background card. I held the leaf with an alligator clip, which I removed with the retouch tool. Edits were in Darktable 5.7 using mostly scene referred modules, although I found the color contrast module is handy for separating nearby colors.

It’s near leaf peak season here in Northern Virginia, and I have a backlog of specimens to shoot!

Very nice approach.

Thanks!

I seldom see any reference to the use of the color contrast module. Did you also try to use a scene-referred module like color harmony?
