Bad/missing fonts on FreeBSD

Hi!,
I just installed darktable on FreeBSD and when I start it up the fonts just come across as “boxes”.
I deleted the config folder from .configs and restarted and it was still bad.

Is there a way to get to a default font that is usable, or to figure out maybe what font it is looking for?

(I can’t read anything in darktable itself because the font issue, so like i can’t go to settings from inside the UI)

Install the Roboto font and file a bug with the FreeBSD package maintainer.

What version of FreeBSD? What Desktop Manager (if any)?

I run 13.2 with XFCE, I do not have Roboto fonts installed and Darktable looks and works fine. I have fonts installed: Deja Vu, Liberation, Noto and webfonts (Microsoft).

$ pkg info|grep noto
noto-basic-2.0_1 Google Noto Fonts family (Basic)
noto-emoji-2.038 Google Noto Fonts family (Emoji)

$ pkg info|grep deja
dejavu-2.37_1 Bitstream Vera Fonts clone with a wider range of characters

$ pkg info|grep liberat
liberation-fonts-ttf-2.1.5,2 Liberation fonts from Red Hat to replace MS TTF fonts

$ pkg info|grep webfonts
webfonts-0.30_14 TrueType core fonts for the Web

Thanks for the tips.
I’m on 13.1-RELEASE-p6 and i use CWM.
I added all of the fonts suggested.
My next step is maybe trying a “full featured” window manager to see if it brings in some default fonts that I don’t have with minimal CWM.

Oh I use fp+ /user/local/font/whatever to add fonts to my fontpath in .xinitrc.
(If they print out a path when I add the package.)

I like XFCE - minimal but full-featured desktop environment. Quite stable and fast. Though by default it is kind of ugly. I install webfonts and select Arial and tweak anti-aliasing to have more thick fonts. Also select different theme and icons. And disable Compositor to remove video tearing during playback.
