New to Darktable (on 4.8.0). On a Macbook Pro 13-inch, Intel, running 13.6.5 (Ventura). My issue is that I can’t seem to find any way to make the image opened in the dark mode to fill the centre. I’m looking at a wee image surrounded by a ridiculously thick white border. I used the framing module but with no success. Playing around with the other settings didn’t really do much. Is there something I need to turn off or on in order to be able to zoom in or out on the image, and to automatically have it open with a smaller white border, and filling the screen? I’ve attached a screenshot of what I see after adjusting the framing module border to zero. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Cheers.
You most likely accidentally enabled ISO126-46 mode (color assessment) which is indicated by the highlighted light bulb in the bottom panel.
The default Keyboard shortcut to toogle it is CTRL+B
My answer to this problem is to use the framing module instead to add a white frame around the image for assessment. Then I can turn the frame off before exporting.
What is the problem? Why not use the iso?
The OP is asking how to turn it off.
Well if the OP only wants to know how to turn it off the iso then clicking on the lightbulb icon will do that for him. If the OP wants to use the iso but is put off by the size of the image and the white surround then my solution is an option that is valid. Either way I hope the OP finds the answer they are looking for in this thread.
There is no need to use the frame module. You can adjust the ISO borders via dartkablerc
You can modify the distance from the edge of the center panel to the edge of the image by adjusting the darkroom/ui/iso12464_border entry in the $HOME/.config/darktable/darktablerc file. In the same file you can modify the size of the white border (in percent) by adjusting the darkroom/ui/iso12464_ratio entry.
OMG! That was too simple. Thank you!
And thank you everyone who responded. My understanding of ISO is the camera setting, so I’m somewhat confused as to why this “controls” the size and border of the image when editing in DT. As I wrote earlier, I’m a newbie, so I find some of the terminology used unfamiliar. And tweaking the $HOME/.config/darktable/darktablerc file is …well… again, unfamiliar. I’ll play around with the percentage and see how it affects the white border size.
Your help is much appreciated. Cheers.
This is meant as a tool to guage overall exposure of your image and give you white and middle grey references surrounding it…its not really meant as a working preview of course people can do with it what they want…

The feature in dt is used to provide a consistent assessment to evaluate colors. It is based on ISO 12646.
