I seem to be able to import images and I can see them in light table. But when I switch to darkroom there is nothing. If I make a change it will briefly flicker with an image and disappear.
Welcome to the forum. Such problems usually happen when darktable tries to use OpenCL (GPU) acceleration, and there is a bug in the driver.
Do you have a GPU (even if embedded in the CPU)? If yes, what brand? What driver? How much GPU memory/VRAM?
You can check whether darktable tried to use the GPU in preferences → processing. If the activate OpenCL support option is not greyed out, you have a GPU that darktable thinks it can use. If the option is ticked, support is turned on. If that is the case, try turning it off and see if it helps.
OK, so it’s an OpenCL issue. However, some modules will become almost unusably slow (diffuse or sharpen is an example, and it’s a good module to have).
If I were you, I’d try to troubleshoot the GPU driver:
There have been problems with intel devices; in fact, they were blacklisted for a while.
The latest driver seems to be 31.0.101.4314. It may be worth a try.
