Last weekend I tried to photograph the thin layer of ice on a pond in the setting sun. The result looked in the end like this:
While I was still trying to set up the camera on the tripod, a pair of swans came by and broke the ice crackling with their weight. My loud swearing didn’t help. I had to look for another spot to photograph the ice patterns. Instead, I photographed the swans handheld. In the end, I liked this picture better than the original subject .

The first pic is to abstract for my taste. The swan is just brilliant!

Great! It’s really awesome how different people and their tastes are. Thank you both for the praise!
I think they’re both nice in their own way. The first one I like the horizontal movement across the frame. Very geometric and pleasing.
The swan is just a nice frame, and really unique. A swan breaking the ice is not something I’ve seen before.
