black & white icebreaker

Last weekend I tried to photograph the thin layer of ice on a pond in the setting sun. The result looked in the end like this:

While I was still trying to set up the camera on the tripod, a pair of swans came by and broke the ice crackling with their weight. My loud swearing didn’t help. I had to look for another spot to photograph the ice patterns. Instead, I photographed the swans handheld. In the end, I liked this picture better than the original subject :grinning:.

The first pic is to abstract for my taste. The swan is just brilliant!

I almost never comment on playraws. BUT - the first one is really great to me.

Great! It’s really awesome how different people and their tastes are. Thank you both for the praise!

I think they’re both nice in their own way. The first one I like the horizontal movement across the frame. Very geometric and pleasing.

The swan is just a nice frame, and really unique. A swan breaking the ice is not something I’ve seen before.

Both nice images that deserve to be printed and framed. Well done.
