I have already made English versions of all screenshots.
The English translation was really not bad. I will try to make the first English version that can be published.
However, I am not happy about the distribution of the first version in English on archive.org.
There was no way I wanted to spread this English translation. I only published your download link on this forum so that you can see what this Hungarian book is about. I didn’t post it here to spread the book. I am currently working on creating a better English version that will be available for publication.
The Hungarian version can indeed be distributed freely in its unchanged form.
I think Péter asked for that removal so he can publish a properly done translation, not intending to take away anyone’s rights granted by the CC licence.
It’s like removing the download for a broken software that’s under the GPL.
Actually no, but I get your point about wanting a mulligan on the English version. And my archive was to curate any possible update to the documents anyways, so it was actually my rights taken away, and the rights of potential readers. Every time I go back and re-read the original post, the publicizing of a publication, I reaffirm that this was an intentional sharing of CC material with no pre-publication embargos. Having proper licensing in place is more serious and of more primary import than people want to consider.
István, indeed, I work every day from early morning to afternoon to create a more acceptable version. I have prepared the figures in English and now I am correcting the English machine translation manually so that there is no nonsense in it and the text is in sync with the text of the figures. It will take at least another week to be ready. But it will still contain a lot of machine translations, you can’t review the entire book in that time. In terms of grammar, a native English proofreader could improve the material. The form in which the English version is published depends on Alberto, the forum members, and me. I have two ideas:
If it suits Alberto, I will definitely offer the soon-to-be-completed English language material for the benefit of the community. This means that it could be added to the ART page, for example among the documentation, or elsewhere, in the appropriate form (not as a book, of course, but as web pages). The advantage of this would be that it could thus serve as the basis for a documentation and that members of the community could improve and expand and supplement the material. The advantage of this would be that each user could translate it into their native language in the browser and save it in PDF format. After it gets on the Internet, I don’t want to deal with this material anymore. All I would ask is that my name be listed among the future contributors. I have no other needs.
I could publish it in book form. However, I don’t see much point in this, because if the ART website has much better material, then there is no point in having a book that will never be updated.
I don’t want to argue about that, I’d rather spend the time on work.
I really made the book in Hungarian available to anyone. There is no problem with that. Everyone can distribute it.
I had the Hungarian edition translated into English by a machine translator, because few people besides István would have understood the book in Hungarian on this forum. Of course, the translator also translated the license terms. However, this is not a published book, I intended it as a first, initial working material for the English publication, which may not be in book form. The link to the English translation is therefore of course not available anywhere, but I was forced to write the link here, because otherwise you would not have been able to view the book. It never crossed my mind that anyone would view this as anything other than a low-quality working paper, which I would not like to distribute because of its quality. I don’t like to give my name to such poor quality work. I don’t know why a working paper should be seen as if it were an already published book.
Richard, if you can’t show some understanding and accept my point, then do what you want. I want to limit neither your rights nor anyone else’s.
Since you wrote your book with markdown, as Alberto said earlier that should then be easy to add it to ART’s wiki, which then will serve as a starting point to possible translations for other languages.
And of course you can be confident that you will always be referred to as the principal author of this documentation.
If you prefer this, I will send you the material in Hungarian (the md file and the pictures) even today.
Would you like to receive the entire material of the book unchanged, or rather stripped down (without title page, recommendation, license, introduction, final word)?
How do I get it to you?
The disadvantage of the Hungarian-language material is that I only want to spend a minimum of time on this material in the future, and it will be very difficult to find someone who knows Hungarian to manage it.
Hi,
You can open an issue on GitHub and attach everything as a zip. If it’s Hungarian I will just run through a machine translator. But please make sure the license allows derivative works in that case.
If I see correctly, only you can see the uploaded zip file. That’s right?
I give this material to you and through you to the community. Since I give it to you, you can do whatever you want with it. I would appreciate it if you could list my name among the other future authors.
Before uploading, I will remove the license section from it. You apply the license you want. Will it be good that way?
There is also a machine-translated, hand-corrected English version, I will send it as well. The figures are subtitled in English. The text of the chapter on ART and editing tools is synchronized with the text of the figures (screenshots). Will it be good that way?
For now, it’s one big page, but we can decide to split it into chapters if it’s more convenient.
Note that I’ve simply put it online “as is”, I didn’t check the translation at all. I hope interested people will proof-read it and report issues and/or weird sentences…
I am now working on the corrected and expanded Hungarian 2nd edition. There will probably be no more editions. Unfortunately, there are mistakes in the book, but now I will be corrected. Quite a lot had to be fixed, unfortunately.
If you want, I will also make this available to you. It will probably be ready in a week.
Perhaps it would only be worth dealing with bug fixes after uploading the 2nd edition.
