Call for extended CR3 samples (all ISO combinations needed)

Hi All!

Thanks to work of very dedicated people we’re very close to full CR3 support in darktable. However we need a broader set of samples.

Currently we have a basic set available on raw.pixls.us (a very awesome resource BTW) but we need samples in all ISO variants.

NOTE: DO NOT SEND all iso variants to raw.pixls.us! upload all samples with BASE ISO to raw.pixls.us and give here link to package with ALL ISO variants

  1. We need CR3 in RAW and CRAW form: Each camera should have two raw quality levels: RAW and CRAW (please notify me if there are any deviations). I need one file per ISO setting for each quality level. The files must be named accordingly: Canon_EOS_RP_CRAW_ISO_100.CR3 for example.
  2. We need ALL ISO settings: Please note that 1/3 ISO steps are set, i.e. I also need ISO 125, ISO 160 etc. In addition, all these cameras should have ISO L (50) and some HI-ISO values, sometimes referred to as H1 and H2.
  3. We need also all variants of crop mode (eg if you put APS-C lens on FF body): If your camera has an optional 1.6x crop mode, I need all photos for full frame AND with 1.6x crop enabled. Please add _CROP to the file name.
  4. Corect licence (CC-0): Before you take the photos, please enter the license “CC-0” in the camera menu under “Copyright”, i.e. the photos are then generally free.
  5. Correct content: About the scene: Something colorful (so no white wall or the like, no people either, cats are okay). It is ideal if all files depict the same scene. Lens, aperture, etc., it doesn’t matter. But make sure the scene is properly exposed and that edges aren’t black
  6. Sending: Then please pack all these CR3 files as a ZIP file and send me link here e.g. via Dropbox, WeTransfer, etc. (approximately 1.2-1.6 GiB).

Here’s current status of our samples:

Are you OK with photos of the wall of my office with a lot of oil painting reproductions - lots of renaissance people in the pictures?

Yes, should be fine.

These are the raw files for the EOS RP. Split in two zip files because the single zip was over the 2Gb limit of wetransfer.

https://we.tl/t-mpfZHBvrLz

https://we.tl/t-zte8HfJsrf

All the photos were shot at constant F/8 and varying shutter speeds according to the set ISO. All the ISO range for a total of 30 files for each of the 4 variations: RAW, CRAW, RAW crop 1.6, CRAW crop 1.6.

I hope it helps!

As I understood dual pixel enabled for both raw and craw would also be good to have

is it for me @piratenpanda? I don’t think I have “dual pixel” anything on my Eos Rp…

ah I’m sorry, only the R does

NOTE: DO NOT SEND all iso variants to raw.pixls.us! upload all samples with BASE ISO to raw.pixls.us and give here link to package with ALL ISO variants

If you’re not sure - just send here link to package with all iso and we’ll sort it and upload all base iso (if necesssary) to raw.pixls.us

Files from Canon EOS 90D.

cRAW: https://www.filemail.com/d/jtpwigskyckzuiy

I send base ISO files –RAW and cRAW– also to raw.pixls.us

Hi, I saw too late that there is alrady a RP upload. In case you need another RP set, here are my samples:

The Windows CR3 codec and the affinity suite show ISO level H2 as 65535, Camera shows 102400 not sure who lies and what darktable should display  I named the files _65535.

Thank you!

The more the merrier, but ultimately this is just data gathering

ALWAYS the camera is RIGHT. the codec and/or affinity are just guessing… badly in this case

In case somebody wants to automatically rename the files, here’s what I did for my 120 files:

exiftool '-filename<${Model}_${Quality}_ISO_${ISO}_${ImageWidth}.${Filetype}' *.cr3

to check first (=dry-run):

exiftool '-testname<${Model}_${Quality}_ISO_${ISO}_${ImageWidth}.${Filetype}' *.cr3

The resulting filenames are:

Canon EOS RP_CRAW_ISO_100_3888.CR3

for the 1.6 crop and

Canon EOS RP_CRAW_ISO_100_6240.CR3

for the original size.

6240 and 3888 are simply the width in pixels. So what I do next is a simple replace using any file renaming utility (I use double commander but the renaming tool in Ubuntu works as well) and replace _3888 with _CROP and _6240 with nothing. And then obviously Canon EOS RP is replaced with CANON_EOS_RP to get finally to the file naming convention recommended above:

Canon_EOS_RP_CRAW_ISO_100.CR3

If somebody is able to modify the single line exiftool command to make it all more automated, I’m all ears.

Here are raw and craw samples files for the EOS 1D X mk3.

1DXmk3_raw_craw_samples

I don’t have a APS-C lens, so I don’t know whether the camera crops the files. There is no aspect ratio setting in the menu (only for Jpegs).

I doubt you can easily use APS-C lenses on FF DSLR. FF MILC will accept because there’s no mirror to hit

Hey @Miha_Pece, there’s just one tiny thing more

Can you make couple more shots? 90D according to manual (https://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/3/0300036243/01/eos90d-ug-en.pdf pages 214-215) and specs should be able to get expanded ISO (H, equivalent to 51200)

No need to re-do whole package, just files with iso above 25600

Thanks!

Sorry, I rarely go higher than 1600

Here is link with two additional files, RAW and cRAW 51200 ISO:

Thank you @Ludrol and welcome to pixls community!

One thing if you may - according to specs and manual 250D should be able to get to iso 51200. Check the manual (https://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/2/0300034502/02/eosrebelsl3-eos200d2-ug-en.pdf) page 448.

No need to create another full set, just RAW/CRAW with ISO H (51200) and It’ll be fine
