Camera serial number

Hello,
Maybe I didn’t search the right way, but…
Long ago, it was possible to search pictures by camera serial number. IIRC, I used that to sort between pictures taken with my own D700 and the one of another photographer after they were mixed by mistake.
It seems this possibility doesn’t exist anymore. The serial number doesn’t even appear in the image informations.
Or is it just me getting so tired I can’t see things ?

I’d check your photo management program, and make sure you have the needed exif information for the camera model visible . Depending on the software you are using, it may be a setting in the preferences, or a setting in the photo view.

I think the photo management program is darktable, unless I’ve missed something.

Sorry, I opened this thread in DT section, so I thought it would be obvious.
So, yes, DT doesn’t display the serial number anymore, and I was wondering if it was an expected behaviour, or if something in my system is broken.
It even isn’t possible to display it in the filter list.
I currently run DT 4.8 on Ubuntu 22.04.

it doesn’t seem to be there to me.

Are you using a version of darktable built for your system? or something like a flatpack, or snap install? I’d avoid the latter two, programs build this way always seem to have issues.

I don’t think that’d affect this.

I dont think it ever did. I dont see a tag for it in the code.

@AdmFubar no, I don’t use flat nor snap, just build from sources.
@g-man The fact is, I noticed there are really very few tags for sorting pictures, and maybe my memory is poking at me, but it seems to me it was possible to sort upon much more tags a few versions ago.
Also, I don’t remember having used some external tool to sort the files by camera S/N, but I’ll dig into the threads of the list and see if I can find something.

yes it it can. depends on what it includes when compiled. ive had different options available or not in flat packs than in programs that were available from my distos version

Like what? I’m one of the flatpak maintainers.

I wasnt talking about darktable specifically, just flatpacks in general. It all depends on who does the builds and what options they enable.
