1 Can i store an default $(JOB_CODE) in darktablerc?
2 Will this default value also used when i ‘add to library’?
3 In another topic i read that ‘filmroll’ is in fact the whole date when imported. and that can be altered to see more than the last part. The link point to the settings page but i can’t see or find the right setting to alter this. is this option deprecated?
I’m get mad to see in filmroll (collections) a complete mesh of useless data.
Because i’m used the add to library almost 20 year of foto’s.
Why is the $(JOB_CODE) left out in add to library? i think this is also in add a useful option.
If you set the jobcode in copy and import it remains until you delete it or you change it. Jobcode is not available if you are just adding to the library because that means the images are already stored in folders.
The screenshots below show how I have copied and imported some images from my phone using the jobcode phone. Previously I have used jobcodes for Japan and Mt Field when copying and importing.
Also collections don’t have to be based on film roll. it can be set to many options including capture time or folder. This will make it very easy to manage 20 years of images. I am not sure if I am addressing your problem, but I can’t understand what default jobcode you want to put into darktablerc that could be of any use. Good luck with resolving your issue.
Yes i have read all the documentation. Not the easiest documentation
i know that it is possible add several variables into darktablerc file. But i can’t find it in the manual.
And yes i don’t have to use ‘film roll’ but if it can filled with a standard set of $variables? then it is also useful for normal ‘Add to library’ uses.
I use now only the Folder option. With more than 55.000 photos the other options are more or less useless.
The list of $variables i have found. And have several use cases (Extra info in lighttable thumbnails, …)
But can’t find, How to add extra (runtime) variable such as $(JOB_CODE)
Or the usual one pointing to an another location for data.db, …in darktablerc.
But this is only relevant if DT uses a predefined $(JOB_CODE) when i going to (again) add my 50.000+ photos from my physical photo location into the DT database. Many photos are scanned 1GB+ Tiff files of 4x5 large format negatives.
I don’t want to physical ‘copy and add’ al the photos (+ 700GB) only to get a useable film roll view.
Because now i see a complete useless ‘film rol’ list of only days with the number of photo’s in ()
OR? Can i fill-in in the ‘copy and add dialog’ simple a standard job-code ($(Year),…) as default also for ‘Add to library?
You can completely define how you want the copied files renamed and other details by expanding the “naming rules” portion of the GUI in the Copy & Import. But this will make copies of all of your 50K images, which seems like it wouldn’t be what you want at this point.
“Add to library” will just add the images using their existing location, no copying involved. You’d probably then want to tag your images. That will involve some work. Probably better not to just bulk import them, but rather import them in batches and add tags as you import.
If you have some other source of metadata, its possible you can write some scripts to get that metadata into darktable.
Found an solution (Was mentioned in manual) but the link pointed to a wrong destination.
The trick is increase the number of folder levels. If you have an directory hiearchy like: yyyy/mm/dd For windows yyyy\mm\dd Default is 1 thus you see only the dd part.
I am glad it is sorted for you. For those who are wondering where you locate the collections settings it is found by doing a right click on the word collections and selecting preferences (Windows version at least). DT gives a great set of sorting options for collections to suit many different needs.
