Can NOT export duplicate images

Trying to use the duplicate feature of Darktable. When in the Darkroom with the duplicate selected (i.e., version marked as 1 rather than 0) and displayed in the main window I then select Export. However, the resulting image file looks like what I’ll call the Original (i.e., version marked with 0).

This is happening on both Version 3.8.1 and 4.4.1 being run on Windows.

I have NOT used the Duplicate feature a lot. I’m thinking there may be something I have yet to recognize that is involved when selecting which of the duplicated images is to be exported.

Am I the only one experiencing this behavior.

If you duplicate an image, did you start from scratch or did you duplicate the current edits?
Because if that last thing is happening, you have a duplicate but with exactly the same edits, so it will look the same :).

Second, how are you exporting? What filename? Do you overwrite or not?
If not, it will create a new file for every export by placing a number (and underscore? Not sure) behind it. So you might be exporting and exporting and exporting, and every time new files are being created by the export, and you are still looking at the original first export you ever did for that image.

My apologies! Upon further examination DT appears to working as expected. I use XnviewMP for viewing images and I now suspect it was simply displaying the wrong file. It’s a great program but it does have issues with the file manager when changes are being made by other software.

make sure that your naming pattern for exports has the duplicate number in it
otherwise it might overwrite during export

Yes, naming pattern is also a bit confusing. I exported the duplicate file first. The file name was no different than what I’m accustomed to when there is NO duplicate. However, I do notice that the sidecar file has an “_01” appended to the camera provided image name which does make it clear which sidecar file applies to the duplicate. I then renamed the exported image file to something that did clarify that it was the duplicate version. Then when I subsequently exported the initial version (i.e., with the standard name for sidecar file) it had the same name that was previously used for the duplicate (this is what I think XnViewMP) failed to recognize.

It would make a lot of sense to me for the “_01” to be appended to the camera supplied image name for the exported image file just like was done for the sidecar file name. Is this something I just haven’t figured out how to set up?
