Canon R5 mk 2 : Wrong File Modification Date/Time for RAW file on CFexpress card

I have an issue with wrong File Modification Date/Time for RAW file on CFexpress card from Canon R5 mk 2.

I have two cards and slots in the camera. A CFexpress Type B card and an SDHC UHS-1 card.

The CFexpress and the SD cards behave differently:

  • If I take a picture, store it on the CFexpress card in camera and transfer the raw file to my computer using a card reader, then the File Modification Date/Time is two hours ahead of local time (Sweden).

  • If I take a picture, store it on the SD card in camera and transfer the raw file to my computer using a card reader, then the File Modification Date/Time is fine and corresponds to local time, no offset.

I can detect the error with the Gnome Nautilus file browser which shows the modified time in the modified column and as file properties. Also exiftool shows the same File Modification Date/Time.

Some notes:

  • Both camera and computer (Linux Debian) have the correct times and time zones set.

  • Both cards are formatted in camera.

  • We started summer time in Sweden today March 30. However the issue was around also during normal time, but then the file Modification Date/Time was one hour ahead of local time in Sweden, for CFexpress card (and correct for SD card).

  • I am using 1.0.3 firmware for Canon EOS R5 mk 2.

  • The camera shows the correct time stamp if I browse the files in the camera, so not all tags and time stamps are wrong.

I only have one CFexpress card and card reader to test with.

I am curious if other people have similar experiences with Canon EOS R5 mk 2 and CF express Type B cards.

I don’t own a R5 Mark II, just thinking about this: to narrow the search for what causes this you could transfer the images from the CFExpress card via USB using EOS Utility.

You might also try to connect the card reader to another computer and see if the problem persists.

Hello @kaha,

Thank you for the suggestions. I have tried them:

  • Win 11 : EOS Utility WLAN transfer from camera : time/date OK

  • Win 11 : CFexpress Card reader : time/date OK

  • Linux Debian : USB cable transfer from camera: time/date OK

  • Linux Debian : CFexpress Card reader : time/date NOK

It is only when Linux automounts the CFexpress card reader with card that I get the error.

The CFexpress Card reader and card mounts as:

/dev/sda1 on /media/magnus/EOS_DIGITAL type exfat (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,uid=1000,gid=1000,fmask=0022,dmask=0022,
iocharset=utf8,errors=remount-ro,uhelper=udisks2)

Maybe I can work around this if I re-mount with a time offset. But so far that has not worked mount option time_offset.

EDIT: Win 11 and Linux Debian dual boot.

I don’t know anything about Linux.

Anyway, I think there is a good chance your R5 II is ok.

Certainly. The camera works perfectly. This is an issue with the Card reader drivers or how Linux Debian mounts the device.

Mount with time_offset=120 works.
