Taken today at 150mm (300mm FF equivalent) on my 14-150mm superzoom. It’s quite soft at the long end, but this beautiful bird would have been just a dot with my usual standard zoom. That’s the beauty of a superzoom: you’re taking wide-angle landscape shots and then suddenly you see some wildlife that needs a telephoto.
“Do you even lift Bro?”
Edit: I didnt think to mention it, but this was at ~225mm FF equivalent.
I managed to get the moon as well, because it’s just… Well… There.
I had to wait quite a while for it to come up over this hill, but managed to get a series of shots.
I edited this early this morning in dt 4.6, heavy crop… I believe this was perhaps with the 50-200mm at nearly 200mm.
This has been a true challenge for me; I typically shoot 24-35 mm (FF equiv), and sometimes 50 mm.
Here is a photo from Santa Fe, NM. Shot at 50 mm (100 FF eq.), f/8, 1 s, at 200 ISO.
The first snow of winter arrived last night. This was taken off my deck at 240mm equivalent, and then cropped in.
Bird in flight…
Yeah. 140mm just ain’t up to it.
Adding that to the growing list of things I really should know by now.
Pretty sky though.
i thought you would like this as motivation ![]()
Not really happy with either of these images, they were opportunistic snapshots. I never go out with the intention to shoot animals, which is part of the problem (presumably). I do like the way the wing feather markings on the vulture are much more evident in IR, but compositions are lacking. Both images are at 300mm FF equiv
Nothing is going to stop me from trying to capture birds with my phone camera. Nothing!
I never managed to capture a bird with a camera, not even with a 600mm. They just flew away.
Gotta admire the ambition!
