Not perfect, but pretty dynamic
Yeah, only beaten by albatrosses taking off and landing.
When Aurora Borealis comes that far south - grab the camera and go shooting (and hope for a spare battery). Even if that means that you have to put back on your outside clothes in the middle of the night and go search for a dark place and listen to the nearby frogs.
In perspective - it is my very first experience to see the Northern Lights and it is extremely rare to see them in southern Canada.
Nice roll, the way you’ve blown the highlights really fit the subject and contribute to the atmosphere. I especially like the 3rd and 5th ones even though the gardener could have done a better job with the mowing pattern …
Nothing special about this photo, I just like the colors, they remind me of late 90s/early 2000s Fujifilm, even though I was trying to simulate Double-X.
I don’t like that this one is blurry but even my IS lens can only do so much with my tremor. But I still get far fewer blurry pictures per session than I did before.
Careful now
Wow! Amazing photos. How do you achieve this kind of bloom? Any diffusion filter or a masked bloom in darktable?
Thanks!
Yes, it’s basically the bloom preset in diffuse and sharpen, masked to the highlights with a parametric mask with blur applied. I ‘discovered’ this effect quite recently and really like it… to the point that I have to be careful not to over use it.
It’s a little like the bloom you can get from an old uncorrected lens wide open, in a way.
Here’s the xmp for one of them… I do vary it a bit, but should give an idea. This is from an old weekly build though, I’m using the color eq as well. 4.7.0+852~gf0c81ac018

Many thanks, I’ll give it a look when I get home
A short while later the waves had all gone
Sometimes it’s nice to turn the background into black
The lake got calm meanwhile
a twisted neck trying to appreciate the original orientation, and a sore brain trying to work out the significance as presented leaves me with the question: why?
