People are gonna people.
At least sometimes they base it on a bin…
Lol
At least it’s all bundled together, as long as there is no wind it should be easier to clean than if it was scattered all over. In his case it’s more of a failure of the city due to lack of bins than of the citizens
Our bins look like this in Toronto. Screenshot from the news in 2024:
Previously, they were a third the size. More than half of those are still waiting to be replaced once broken. The curvature at the top prevents people from stacking. I suppose the excess falls toward the front side. People often place garbage that does not fit on the sides.
In Japan, there are hardly any bins on the street, at least as I remember, but everyone takes their rubbish home. But that’s very Japan, I guess. Sometimes people dump stuff in other people’s bicycle baskets. You’re not supposed to eat on the street, anyway. It was a nightmare finding a narrow space between buildings to squeeze yourself into to eat a sandwich if you were really hungry out and about and needed to eat something. I sometimes saw office workers facing the “wrong way” on park benches to eat their takeout at lunchtime so they were facing the bushes rather than the open space. And my Japanese girlfriend of the time got really embarrassed that I ate a chip from my plate as I walked back to the table at a buffet place. On the other hand, on some of the islands you find all sorts of rusting electrical appliances dumped in the bushes.
I used to work close to Borough Market in the 90s, and it was still quite a grungy part of town back then and still somewhat “undiscovered”. I was at the market last May and couldn’t believe how busy it was. The queues for street food were crazy, and it was probably a 20-30 minute wait to get any food. And of course there aren’t many places to sit, so it just becomes a big tide of people pushing past each other. It’s really become part of the tourist trail now.
Definitely. The queues for the paella are insane any time of year. Winter is quieter in my experience for other stalls but still pretty jammed. We stuck with the triple cooked chips.

I especially love the clouds in the first one. I am curious about the second image.
In the foreground: Is that snow on the ground that you have burned down, dead grass, or something else?
Finally managed to get my little drone out today to try it out. For a tiny 12mp camera I think it does not a bad job at all.
I took more pics but have only processed these two so far. Going to take a bit to get used to trying to compose with one of these, and get over my fear of losing sight of it.
Details are pretty good indeed. You can see that the rocks have been moving recently. The flat pointy rock (1/4 from left and just below center-line) has slid into its current position within the past few rains.
That’s what live grass looks like in infrared, nothing specific was done to it.
I would be interested: Would it have been better to add some more DoF, such that the dark inner part is in focus too?
I tried to have the thorns in focus (inner and outer) and tried to have the background smooth. This was with a tripod, but focus stacking was impossible because there was too much wind. I have some with f/10 and higher, but I don’t like the background in those…

(edit: some photos had not uploaded correctly for some reason)
Manually merge (in something like Gimp) the leaf and thorns from an F10 shot over the background in the image above
I do this a lot for my fungi shots as my ancient 7d does not focus stack
Good luck
