How can I enable capture sharpening in the Demosaicing module of darktable ? Can’t find anything in the settings…
I just open the demosaic module, and click on the tick box next to “capture sharpen”.
That’s for sure, but how enable capture sharpening on as default?
Thanks, I read the link but did not find what I’m looking for, enabling capture sharpening on as default.
You create an auto-applied preset for demosaic with the checkbook ticked but radius and threshold set to 0. This will turn on the option by default, and will cause automatic calculation of those params.
Thank you so much István, it works !!!
I’m glad, but you should thank Hanno: he did the code and provided the preset.
I for one have created a style to apply to my images that includes the capture sharpening preset. A brilliant addition for 5.4 right alongside AgX.
Of course to Hanno many thanks for the good work.
The auto-applied preset gets a bit cumbersome if one uses both bayer and x-trans cameras. Since the demosaicing methods differ, I need separate presets for them. I can auto-apply the x-trans preset for my Fuji camera (based on camera model) but from what I found, it’s not possible to have a preset auto-apply with a negated rule (i.e. everything except that specific model).
The best solution I found for the moment is to have a separate preset for each camera I own (even if most of the presets look the same). Does anyone have a better idea how to handle this?
The generic preset described above works for both sensors, demosaicer will be set according to sensor.
Ah, good to know. I probably should have just tried it out in the first place.
I assume I can’t set a non-default demosaicing method in that case? I currently have it set to Markesteijn 3-pass for the Fuji but I can probably just dismiss this as I actually never noticed a relevant difference to 1-pass.
This is fine, but for a beginner it is some steps away to catch, understand and effectuate this.
I guess module specific settings are not very popular in the global preferences dialog, but the processing tab does contain the item auto-apply per camera basecurve presets (for display-referred workflow), so could it be possible to also have something like “include capture sharpening by demosaic activation” (ticked off as default)?
Considering how awesome CS is and how hidden it also might be for many users I think an option in the options would be justified.
