capture sharpening issues

Currently running roughly latest master ~556 and when following the tooltip it says that I am too zoomed in to calculate a radius. This happens around 35% for my R5m2 and around 30% for my X-T2. I am quite sure that this has not always been the case and I used 100% as in the tooltip before. Any idea @hannoschwalm?

Did you crop these images before enabling the sharpening? At least I once observed this on an image that I significantly cropped (which probably has the same effect as zooming in). In that case, temporarily deactivating the crop solved it for me.

no crop at all unfortunately

The radius is not calculated if the current roi is too small, either by crop or zooming in.

I also see the message appearing without doing anything when zooming in and out. This certainly didn’t happen before. Also the tooltip states 100% is best. Something is odd here. It worked before now I have to zoom out to 30% zoom level for it to start working.

enabling CS at 100% does not trigger the warning. zooming in and out also does not then but when once clicking on the calculate radius button it shows the warning. And it disappears and appears constantly as if the calculation is set to do it whenever the zoom level changes.

ok now I got the warning while just enabling CS. So strange

I get this using latest git master, demosaic module capture sharpen radius stays = 0 and is not immediately recalculated when a new operation is initiated.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. select a picture and go to darktable.
  2. reset history with history reset button in darktable
  3. select 100% zoom
  4. select demosaic module capture sharpen tick box whilst at 100% zoom. This trigger a warning can not calculate a reliable capture radius as you are zoomed in too much. Capture sharpen radius becomes 0.
  5. Keep demosaic module capture sharpen tick box selected. Go back to zoom = fit.
  6. At zoom = fit, Capture sharpen radius stays = 0 even if I change zoom a few steps. Radius becomes stuck at 0. I can also do “shift”+“other module” (example: shift + exposure) to get both demosaic and exposure modules visible at the same time. I can change exposure a few steps without triggering a Capture sharpen radius recalculation.
  7. Then, suddenly demosaic module sharpen sharpen radius is recalculated.

This procedure does not reliably trigger Capture sharpen radius stuck at 0 all the time, sometimes radius is recalculated immediately.

EDIT: I have tested with Canon CR2 and Canon CR3.

Can’t find a tooltip to zoom to 100% , it says “zoomed out” here

Intended as is for auto-calculating presets.

  1. Manual is not integrated yet
  2. There might be more UI changes coming in master

In the german translation it says when hovering over the calculate radius button “Dies sollte in der 100% zoomstufe erfolgen”

Indeed - the German translation is the polar opposite of the English:

I just did a PR with some code improvements and and better tooltip, didn’t notice the translation error as i never use the german UI
