I’m using darktable since a few years now and I really enjoy it.
I have some issues recently with the ‘working’ text color that appears on the image when some modules that require more processing are activated. The current color is almost invisible on most of the photos.
Can it be changed somewhere in the css file? Or can it be shown in a popup as the exporting images text is done?

It was one of those labels that still had hardcoded colors. In master you can change it in the css now. It uses fg_color and selected_bg_color. Maybe it’s a little more visible already as I also increased the thickness of the outline a little.
will you cherry pick that into 2.4?
After a while, yes. With some other changes. Before we do a new release. First I want to have it being tested in master.
